TWO NEW HOMES ARE BEING BUILT DURING 2010

Habitat for Humanity LBPC is building two new family homes during 2010: one on S. Sterling St. in Streator and the second on W. Superior St. in Ottawa.

Rev. Charles (Paster Chuck) Maney has conducted several meetings in both cities and has passed out as many as ten applications in a single night.hfhstreator.jpg Completed applications were returned to Habitat earlier this year. The Family Selection Committee has completed the process of reviewing applications, verifying financial information and visiting families. Two new families have been selected.

Habitat will now find Site Supervisers, funding and will begin construction of these homes.

LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam Counties HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more homes.

Are You Interested in Joining the Habitat for Humanity Board?

The Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity, LaSalle, Bureau and Putnam Counties, is in the midst of strengthening itself to meet the opportunities of the future.

At our August 2010 meeting, Rich Larson, James Hardie storeroom manager, was elected President for a term of one year. The following new Board members have joined Habitat during the last year; Lela Nelson, employment office counselor, Charlie Taylor, owner of a drywall business, Paul Ebener, construction company owner and Pat Noto, Ottawa CPA. Other Board members include: Heather Johnson, Vice-President; Lee McCullough, Secretary; Vicki Smith, Treasurer; Rev. Charles (Pastor Chuck) Maney, Michael Moore, Stephen Johnson; Jenny Knapp.   Fran Gibson serves as Administrative Assistant.

The Board is looking for people interested in the Christian mission to provide affordable housing in our three-county area. We are very much in need of people with backgrounds in real estate, public relations, social work and home construction.  We also have a need for someone with a passion for building relationships for this mission.  This individual would communicate the message of Habitat for Humanity, LBPC to area service organizations and churches.
